About NB Power Transmission
|
NB Power Transmission owns and operates the transmission system used to carry
electricity from generating stations and other supply interfaces over long
distances to the consumer distribution network, large industrial customers, and
export markets.
The system is comprised of terminals and switchyards linked by 6,700 km of
transmission lines ranging in voltage from 69 kV to 345 kV. A telecommunication
network utilizes microwave, fibre and leased circuits that provide for data
transmission from control and protection systems to the state-of-the art Energy
Control Centre.
With the proclamation of the Electricity Act, NB Power Transmission
shares responsibility for system operation with the New Brunswick System
Operator, a provincial government agency. In addition to reliable transmission
service, it provides for the security of transmission assets and ensures that
the transmission system operates efficiently with minimum losses. The system is
designed, constructed and operated to withstand contingencies ranging from the
loss of supply on individual lines to cascading outages.
NB Power Transmission is committed to being a leader in safety among North
America electric utilities by encouraging safe work practices and ensuring
public safety. Safety initiatives such as work planning
safety conferences and leadership field visits are a continuing focus, as are
joint health and safety committees and other programs such as the Safety Takes
You Home awareness campaign.
