Nepisiguit Falls Transmission Line

In July 2007, NB Power Generation Corporation purchased the Nepisiguit Falls Generating Station from Smurfit-Stone (historically known as Great Falls) to support our renewable energy commitment. In order to maximize the electrical output from the facility, work must be done at the site and along the existing transmission line.

The proposed project has been divided into two phases: the first comprises the construction of a new terminal at the facility, upgrading a portion of the existing line to 69 kilovolts (kV), and the construction of a new section of line roughly six kilometres in length that will parallel Route 360 terminating at the Stone Container Sawmill. This transmission line will directly connect the Nepisiguit Falls Generating Station to the 69 kV network. The second phase will involve the dismantling of the remaining transmission line from the tap-off at Route 360 to the Stone Container facility in Bathurst (approximately 20 km in length). Work to dismantle this line will commence once the new line is in service.
