NB Power Transmission is planning the construction of a 345 kV transmission line and interconnection with New England, which would be utilized for import and export opportunities. All necessary approvals for construction of the Canadian portion of the IPL are now in place.
A joint development agreement between NB Power Transmission and Bangor Hydro, an EMERA Inc. company, allows the IPL to reach the Orrington, Maine destination. Bangor Hydro will proceed with the acquisition of required state and federal permits for the construction of the United States portion of the line.

Important Notice – Submission for Helicopter Structure Construction -
September, 2006
NOTICE April 2007: NB Power Transmission to use helicopters to erect structures for the construction of the International Power Line
Motorist and residents in the area that stretches from the Point
Lepreau area, route 785, to the crossing point near the US
border, north of St. Stephen, may notice helicopters in the air.
A heavy-lift helicopter is being used to erect structures for the
construction of NB Power’s International Power Line and a
smaller support helicopter will be used to transport personnel
and tools to structure locations.
The heavy-lift helicopter will transfer and place the structures on
pre-constructed footings. The heavy-lift helicopter will hover at
each structure location for a few minutes. It will be used to hold
the structure in a vertical position while ground crews install the
bolts connecting the poles to the footing.
